Our Story
Built for the long, considered life
fahnipiles was founded on a simple belief — that the years after full working life deserve a setting as thoughtfully arranged as any that came before.
Back to HomeAbout fahnipiles
A house that grew from attention to what actually matters
fahnipiles opened in Thalang after years of watching how retirement care was typically arranged — with the emphasis on capacity, routine, and administrative efficiency, rather than the quality of any given Tuesday afternoon. The founders wanted something different: a house small enough that every resident's preferences could be known and accommodated, set in a part of Phuket still shaped by its original landscape of palm groves, temple grounds, and open sky.
The name comes from the nipa palm — a plant that grows close to the water's edge, low and wide-spreading, resilient and generous. It seemed an honest metaphor for the kind of care we wanted to offer: close to the ground, attuned to the person, not trying to be impressive.
Thalang was a deliberate choice. It is Phuket's quieter interior — away from the resort development of the south, but close to the airport, to healthcare services, and to the island's deeper cultural life: the Thalang National Museum, the Wat Phra Thong temple, the weekly markets. Residents are part of a real place, not an enclave.
Our Mission
To offer a retirement environment where the pace, the meals, the garden, and the people are all arranged with genuine care — so that later life feels like a proper season of living, not a waiting room.
Our Vision
A small community in Thalang where residents and staff know each other properly, where the island's light and culture are part of daily life, and where families feel genuinely at ease when they are far away.
Our Values
Honesty before reassurance. Attentiveness before procedure. The personal detail before the policy. And a quiet respect for the fact that each resident has arrived at fahnipiles with a whole life behind them.
The People
The team at fahnipiles
Because we are small, every member of the team is known by residents and families. There is no rota of strangers — the same faces, the same conversations, the same understanding.
Khun Pornpan
House Director
With over eighteen years working in residential care across Phuket and Chiang Mai, Khun Pornpan oversees the daily life of the house and maintains the standards that families rely on.
Somchai Rattanakit
Head of Resident Activities
Somchai designs and accompanies the activities programme — from morning garden sessions to cultural outings across Thalang and northern Phuket. He speaks English and Thai with equal fluency.
Wanida Noppamart
Household & Kitchen Manager
Wanida manages the kitchen and housekeeping teams, sourcing produce from the Thalang market three times a week and ensuring the house runs with the kind of quiet order that residents come to rely on.
Standards
How we maintain the quality of care
The standards we hold ourselves to are not primarily documented ones — they show in how the house looks on an ordinary Wednesday, how staff speak to residents, and what families find when they visit without notice.
Residential Safety Standards
The property meets Thai residential safety requirements for elder accommodation — including fire safety, emergency procedures, and accessible room layouts. These are reviewed and updated regularly.
Food Safety & Nutrition
All meals are prepared from fresh ingredients sourced locally three times per week. Kitchen practices comply with Thai food safety standards. Dietary preferences and restrictions are recorded and respected for each resident.
Privacy & Personal Data
Resident and family information is held securely and shared only with staff who need it for care purposes. We do not share personal information with third parties and keep documentation under proper lock and access control.
Staff Selection & Training
All staff are personally selected by the house director, background-checked, and trained specifically in non-medical elder care, communication with residents, and the expectations of an English-speaking household.
Regular House Reviews
Monthly internal reviews cover the condition of rooms, resident satisfaction, activity programme quality, and staff performance. Families are welcome to raise observations at any time — and these are taken seriously, not filed away.
Healthcare Coordination
fahnipiles maintains working relationships with healthcare providers in Thalang and Phuket City. Staff can coordinate appointments, accompany residents when needed, and communicate in English with medical teams on a resident's behalf.
Our Approach
Retirement living in Phuket's Thalang district
Thalang sits at the northern end of Phuket island — an area that still reflects the island's original character more than its tourist-facing south. The roads are lined with rubber and palm, the markets sell real produce, and the local temple grounds offer a kind of quiet that is harder to find elsewhere on the island. For residents who have retired to Thailand or who have lived here for years, Thalang offers belonging rather than novelty.
Non-medical retirement accommodation in Thailand ranges considerably in quality and atmosphere. fahnipiles occupies a particular space within that range: small enough for personal knowledge of every resident, professionally run enough for families to rely on, and positioned in an environment that contributes to rather than merely contains daily life. The garden terrace, the light through the palm canopy, the walk to the market — these are not amenities listed in a brochure; they are the actual fabric of living here.
For families based in the UK, Australia, Europe or elsewhere, the decision to arrange elder care in Thailand often involves significant research and considerable apprehension. We take that seriously. Families are welcome to visit as often as they wish, to speak with staff directly, to see the house on an unannounced day, and to read the monthly updates we provide to those who request them. The trust that comes with that transparency takes time to build — and we think it is worth building properly.
